Pre-wedding shoot

If I was Mike, I'm sure I'd come up with a witty pun about guns and photo shoots or something... but I'm not as clever as him so I'll just write about our photos instead.

We met up with our lovely photographer, Olga, for a pre-wedding shoot last weekend. The idea is to get used to having your photo taken together before the big event, and also to get to know our photographer a little bit before hand.

I spent the whole day before fretting about what dress to wear, bought three and then took them all back and wore one I had anyway. Typical. I was also worried about the predicted thunderstorms - I'm brilliant at picking the wrong day for things!

We were headed off to Dedham, where Constable painted loads of his pictures, like this one:

We chose that spot because Mike and I spent many hours strolling by the river there and talking about anything and everything when we first started going out. It really is beautiful, and Constable's cottage is at the end of a lovely walk along the river.

Mike wasn't so keen about having his picture taken as he claims that he's only ever had one good photo taken of him and that was in 1990! I disagree. Olga put him at his ease though and we had a lovely time.

I was wearing totally inappropriate footwear for a country walk (I really have morphed into an Essex girl) so had fun trying to perch on trees roots by the river and stuff. Mike was temporarily scared by a huge dog that was keen on jumping in the water from a great height and swimming about, then shaking dry right next to where Mike was posing.... I was kind of waiting for an action shot of the dog/water/Mike splashing sort, but thankfully it was all ok. And we got a swan in the background of one of the shots, so that's nice.

Finally, we might have a few nice pictures of us together! I think we only have one nice one of the two of us.
Then we strolled into the village, had ridiculously expensive tea and scones and watched as the thunderstorms broke 5 mins after the end of our shoot. Then went to see Harry Potter. A lovely day :)

Stag do

Good grief, has it really been a month since the last time Lyn or I wrote a post? Between Lyn's Ofsted and my attempts to get my department ready for the new GCSE, time has just flown by!

I can't believe that we're at the t-minus 26 days stage! :)

So a little while ago, I went on my stag do down to London to meet up with Tom (brother and best man) and my friends and family who kindly came to watch me get very drunk. But that was later on.

Tom had arranged for us to go go-karting. Now I know that anyone who's ever been in a car with me will testify that I have a small obsession with sticking to the speed limit, so the idea of me throwing a petrol-powered shopping trolley around a track with my arse two inches above the ground may seem a little incongruous.

I had a brilliant time! Although the experience has once again confirmed my inability to go round corners with any sort of speed, I was fine on the "go-fast-along-straight-bits" skill, as well as the "swerve-dangerously-in-front-of-people" ability. Amusingly, although we got given a ridiculous number of safety warning before we were allowed to go on the track, once we were on there all of the marshals were too busy playing on their phones to notice any underhand shenanigans.

Special mentions have to go to my friend Pete (who kept his cool despite running out of petrol half-way through), Tom's mate Toff (who was unbelievably fast) and my Uncle Pete (who drove the entire 45 minutes session without a team mate to relieve him or a single pit-stop to stretch his legs).

After we'd had some grub, we found a nice pub where my friends and family kindly bought me lots of drinks (shockingly sometimes these drinks were mixed in to other drinks! :)) I do remember (vaguely) being bought a shot of something floating in a glass of something else. I'm assuming that it was some vitamins/fruit juice combo.

Later on that evening, the stoical Tom escorted a drunken Mike safely across London town (during which a kebab was enjoyed), whereupon Mike snored his head off for the short remainder of the night.

I nearly, very nearly, had a hangover. Instead I was left with a vague taste of chilli sauce and a lot of gratitude to all the people who came out for my stag:

Dad
Uncle Pete
Vince
Stephen
Tom
Jamie
Paul
Pete
Dave
Dan
James
Rob
Jon
Alan
Toff

Thanks very much for coming guys and thanks very much to Tom for organising it. See you all on the big day!
